Lessons Learned From 1 Year As A People Manager

March 30, 2022 Samantha Ushedo Episode 5

It’s my 1 year work anniversary since I made a huge career change and became a people manager - how this time has flown by! I’m dedicating today’s episode to sharing 6 lessons from this past year, the experiences I’ve had and how I’m adapting myself to grow and improve.

This year has certainly not been easy, I’ve made countless mistakes, have prioritized incorrectly, and hurt people accidentally. But this isn’t meant to be easy, so here’s to another year of learning, failing, growing and evolving as a #WomanInProgress.

Here’s a sneak peak at some of the lessons I’ve made this year:

  • How I’m adapting to managing my new team
  • Being okay with people not accepting your style of leadership
  • Learning how to prioritize self care even when you love your job
  • Opening up to having support and someone calling you out
